This effort is an offshoot of the exchange on comments about the recent news article that appeared on www.gmanews.tv last December 6, 2010 entitled "Aquino sets up P1-billion loan program for returning OFWs" which drew mixed reactions from its readers, mostly were negative initially, and I cannot sit down watching others shooting down that idea because after all the intentions are good although the initial amount being set up is small. I wanted to help open our eyes to the opportunities that some of us may have missed to notice maybe because we are very preoccupied at our jobs.
Some ideas were pitched in in that comment thread and then a brilliant idea of coming up with an OFW BANK came up which got me interested because these are one of those common aspirations of OFWs that I am also passionate about. Although this idea is not relatively new to me as this was also raised before by Bro. Eddie C. Villanueva, but the positive reactions to this idea which gathered momentum draw my creative juices to it.
And then somebody brought up the idea of coming up with a website where OFWs of like minds and aspirations can congregate freely and share their ideas and draw more OFWs to see the big picture.
And this free website is born. I am not sure though is the term "website" is the appropriate term as I am not really a techie. I encourage the others who are good at this to also come up with similar and even better efforts to attain the same purpose.
You are free to copy or forward by email or through other networking means any and all articles here with the end in view of spreading one's idea geared towards coming up with a common roadmap to establishing an OFW BANK which can be had through our collective efforts here and in some other discussion boards and threads.
I am indebted to the first few cyber-OFWs (for lack of a better term) who hotly pursued this idea through their comments and who even committed to enjoin others to support and pursue this endeavor. Let me say "Mabuhay" to Sirs Aurelio Petrache, bilber, mr_john_jones, and to all Patriotic Filipinos who voiced out their interest.
